So, lately I have been watching quite a lot of movies within the past two months (I could go through one year with only going to the cinema a couple of times "XD). And I'll be going to see one soon this Sunday so I might add it later in this post. So, yeah I'll be writing some of my opinions about some of them.
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
I should say that I used to be really interested in Greek mythology (ok, maybe I still am but now I'm more into Norse mythology) so I was a little happy seeing the mythological things pop up. But what I found really weird was how in the world did Percy suddenly become good at sword fighting? Maybe it was explained in more detail in the book but still wth? I paid money to learn kenjutsu but he just wields the sword like it was meant to be. =__= And the girl (I've already forgotten her name) always has this unsettling piercing stare... And seeing all these teenage demi-gods in the "camp" made me wonder how many times the Olympian Gods did it with the men/women. Other than that it was rather entertaining, like Harry Potter but in New York and with a black satyr.
Sherlock Holmes
I like the music. That catchy bouncy piano tune you hear every time in the movie. For some reason I like it. And Sherlock Holmes really reminded me of Captain Jack Sparrow with his eccentrics. But It was hard for me to identify who was who between Holmes and Watson sometimes, especially in the beginning because of my inconvenient disability to remember new faces. The whole movie was really fast paced and seemed really long but it was exciting to watch. Seeing Holmes deduce things so accurately is really... wow. It was also amusing to see him try to do things.
It's got black magic stuff in it. At first when all those unexplainable magic stuff kept happening I began wondering if this was really a Sherlock Holmes movie. The movie was really fast paced that it didn't give me time to consider the possible tricks behind the magic stuff, and I gave up trying to think when the old guy caught fire when he fired his gun. How is that possible?!?! But it all became clear when the super wireless technology machine was revealed. There was no magic. It was all a trick, with SCIENCE!! 8D
Science is wonderful. And Holmes managed to explain almost everything. One thing I wondered was how in the world did Lord Blackwood enter his father's mansion and into his bathroom undetected? Did he bribe someone or did his father actually lived alone?
Well, overall it was a really interesting movie. And exciting.
The Book of Eli
I should start with my first impression of the movie when i watched its trailer. The movie looked like it was set in a post-apocalyptic world, with a guy who was holding a magic book or a special book of the Bible called the Book of Eli, that could either save the world or destroy it, depending on whose hands it fell into. So you get the bad guys going after the main guy intending to use the book for their selfish needs.
Now this was what really happened in the movie. You get a guy in a semi post-apocalyptic/post-big-war who holds a very, very special book that is possibly the last of its kind, frequently called "The Book", and The Book could have been the cause of the world's destruction but it could also be one thing that could save it (or the people at least). And you get one bad guy trying to get the book for his own obsessive needs, so he and his minions go after the main guy to try and get the book.
Well, at least I wasn't too far with my deductions. But what made it different was some unexpected things. Actually I went into the cinema not knowing what to expect because I did not read any summaries or reviews of the movie prior to watching it (someone forbade us to). The ending of the movie left a slightly fuzzy and bittersweet feeling. Actually, you could call it a happy ending. There is still hope in the destroyed world, the main guy has fulfilled his duty/mission, and the bad guy got what he deserved. The plot twist at the end was the (my reaction -->) "Wait, what? You mean that all this time he was..?" kind, like the "Bruce Willis is a ghost!!" kind, but really unexpected. One day I'd like to watch the movie again just to find the various hints that lead to that twist. Oh and this is also one of those rare times where I sort of feel that some people are better off dead for their own sakes in those situations found in the movie.
