Cup Noodle Review - Nissin World Cup Noodle Summit 2017 - Indonesian Gulai Ayam Melayu

I got a couple of interesting cup noodle flavours from Japan. (Thanks, sister!) They're a part of "The World's Cup Noodle Summit 2017" series, which I've never heard of, but it should be interesting! 8D

Note that the broth for these noodles contain pork lard, so they're not halal...

This "Cup Noodle Summit 2017" series features flavours from various countries outside of Japan. There's apparently a German flavour too, but I've only got the Indonesian and the Hong Kong flavours. I'll start with the Indonesian Gulai Ayam Melayu flavour, since it's somewhat closer to home!

Strange it's called "Melayu" when it's supposed to be from Indonesia...
The gulai paste! (To add after the noodles cook.)
Here's how the inside looks.
All cooked!
Time to add the paste!
Mmm, that's a nice colour...

The colour of the broth (after adding the gulai paste) certainly makes it look like south-east asian. I can also smell the santan (coconut milk) in the broth. Reminds me of curry laksa! Unfortunately, the taste is on the mild side... I would have loved a stronger flavour of the curry. That does not mean it's a bad dish, the broth is tasty, but the flavour is too mild! (Is it to cater to the Japanese palate?)

There's not much in terms of veggies and meat, but I like that they have shredded chicken in there to imitate most curry laksa dishes. In fact, the taste reminds me of the local Nissin Laksa Cup Noodle flavour, but not as fatty or thick.

After going through more than half of the cup, I found that most of the flavourful bits have sunk to the bottom, which is a shame because it would have made the cup noodle better if the flavours were more evenly distributed throughout! (Looks like I have to give it a thorough mixing the next time I eat this!)

Overall it's not a bad cup noodle, but it could use some improvements. When I ate this, I had no idea how gulai curry was supposed to taste like, but apparently the closest thing I've eaten to gulai curry is rendang curry, which I find quite heavy. On the plus side, the broth for this cup noodle is quite light, which is fine by me, because I don't want to feel like I'm eating my way to a heart attack!

By the way, the local Nissin Laksa Cup Noodle flavour I mentioned was this sucker:

Just looking at it gives me a heart attack!
Score: 6.5/10
