Very Japaneeeese~ |
I'll start with stuff I ate earlier in the trip, towards the stuff I had at the end of the trip.
I ate at a seafood grill restaurant, and what I wanted to point out was the crab miso (in the crab shells). They're crab innards but they're delicious! They're kinda sweet and a bit strong-tasting, but a bit of rice should balance out the strong taste if you're not used to it. The fried sakura ebi at the bottom is also good too!
Then there's the dessert at that same seafood grill restaurant. It's Japanese anmitsu, and this particular portion is really big! It's quite tasty though.
This one's from a sushi restaurant. It's a gunkan maki with tarako as the topping. It's one of my favourite fish roe to eat and sushi restaurants don't normally serve this (I think?). It's part of a seasonal set of dishes available at the time. It was tasty, but a bit too salty. I'll still eat it though, just for the flavour.
At a tempura restaurant, they served egg tempura. This sort of reminds me of the egg tempura that Soma cooked in chapter 171 of Shokugeki no Soma. It was... alright, I guess? 8D;; I usually don't eat eggs with little-to-no seasoning. I'm not fond of the taste of egg whites, sadly... (The other tempura they served was not bad.)
At Ueno park, there was a stall that was selling grilled ayu (or sweetfish). I was not brave enough to try it, but I've had ayu tempura before and it's quite tasty... I kinda regret not buying one of these grilled ones....
Aaaand I've been quite excited to share this one! It's curry bun bought from a supermarket! I could have bought freshly-made ones from the bakery, but I did not have the opportunity to do so, so this pre-packed one will do!
I've mentioned in my Isekai Shokudou review that I was quite keen to try the curry bun.
Time to see what the fuss is about.
Turns out it's actually not bad. I can see the appeal! The bread still has a bit of crispiness to it, and the curry is mild but tasty. If it were freshly-made curry buns, I think the taste and texture would be fantastic! Will definitely try freshly-made ones if I get the opportunity to do so!
And last but not least, Japanese curry! With natto!!! I like natto and I like japanese curry, so I was curious to see how this combination goes. (Btw, this was found in a Sukiya restaurant, a fairly well-known gyudon restaurant.)
The combination surprisingly works! Natto goes well with Japanese curry for some reason.... The curry itself is not that spectacular, but I still enjoyed it. It was an interesting experience... Would love to try it again with better curry.
Well, that's it for this blog post! I actually ate a couple of cup noodles there too, but I'll save those for a cup noodle review or two. Also, it was a shame I could not go to a Japanese Curry restaurant during the trip, but the people I'm travelling with were not too fond of Japanese curry. 8D;;;
