Cute little bottle. |
So, the first time I tried this regular Kagome tomato juice, it tasted horrible, like I was drinking chemicals from a lab. Did the taste of plastic leak so much into the juice? I just don't know. All I know is that I had to add sugar, habanero sauce and some soy sauce to mask that horrid taste. It was torture.
Some weeks (or months?) later, I discovered another tomato juice from Kagome which said "sweet tomato" on the box. I thought I'd give this one a try, since I recalled that sugar was one of the things that was definitely missing from that last bottle I drank. Perhaps this one might taste better.
Oh, how wrong I was.
The ingredients list is just two components... |
It still tasted terrible, like, how could anyone enjoy drinking this?! Even with the added "sweetness," it tasted like I was drinking soap or washing detergent! It became much more bearable to drink after I mixed a teaspoon of soy sauce into the juice. Can anyone explain to me what is going on with the tomato juices from Kagome? Is this one of those parsley/coriander things where it either tastes alright or tastes like soap? (Parsley tastes terrible to me, but this tomato juice is worse!)
Is this how "pure" tomato juice tastes like when you strip away the salt and sugar? I don't know... Until I find what the deal is with Kagome's tomato juices, I'll just avoid anything vegetable-juice-related from Kagome. (Yes, I called the tomato a vegetable.)
In the meantime, I recommend this brand of tomato juice from WeserGold. It's the best-tasting tomato juice I've found so far.
German brand! |
There are other brands I've yet to try, like Campbell's Tomato Juice From Concentrate, but the can is huge! I have to share it with someone...
You can just barely see my fingers! |
I'll let you know how it tastes once I'm not too lazy to open it up.
UPDATE:
Ok, I've tried Campbell's Tomato Juice from Concentrate, and it's not bad. It's more on the savoury side so I suggest putting a bit of sugar in it if you like your tomato juice a little sweeter. Or, you can add some tabasco or habanero sauce (and a dash of pepper) to give it some spice. Very versatile, this juice...
