Samyang Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen - 'Ice' Type

I finally got around to trying one of the older flavours of the Samyang Hot Chicken Flavour Ramen instant noodles, the 'Ice' type!

I wonder why the ICE has quotation marks..?

The reason I took so long in trying this flavour is because there isn't a bowl or cup version where I can sample a single serving, and I didn't want to buy a pack of five in case I didn't like the flavour. Luckily I was able to buy just one packet of this (along with the Mala flavour which I will be covering soon) from Okashi World/Nimaco. Time to see what it's all about!
I really appreciate these english instructions.

The contents of the packet!

Time to boil the noodles!

I should mention that this is the first time I'm preparing 'cold' noodles so I don't know if I cooled the noodles correctly. It's not the first time I'm eating cold noodles though, since I've eaten cold soba and soumen noodles before. It has to be colder than room temperature, I think.

All boiled!

Time to sieve it!

I bathed it in cold water and added ice for good measure!

Time to add the sauce and the toppings!

Mix~

Alright, as for how it tastes... Well, it's a bit strange eating the spicy noodles cold, but it's not bad nonetheless. The chilli paste is as spicy as usual, but the ice helps dampens the spiciness by a bit.

I also added a soft boiled egg and beef furikake for substance.

The ice had mostly melted by the time I mixed it a second time, which made the noodles a little less cooler. I'm too lazy to add more ice to make it cooler again...

All mixed again!

Overall, it's not bad. I can see the appeal of eating it cold since the contrast of hot spicy sauce against cold noodles can be quite interesting. However, for all the effort of cooling the noodles, the result felt a bit underwhelming. It's much easier to just dig in right away after removing the noodles from the boiling water, and cooling those noodles took some time.

It's unfortunate but I probably won't be eating it a second time. Well, it was cool to try eating it once for the experience. I'd rate this a 5.6/10.
