American Nissin Cup Noodle - Hot and Spicy Shrimp

I haven't learnt from my last experiences with these US cup noodles, but this was a flavour I did not see the last time I was at the supermarket, so I was curious to try it as well.

Ooh, maroon!

The label says "Hot" "and" "Spicy," so it's gotta have at least a bit of spice, right? Let's find out!

Here's the top!

Ingredients list, etc...

The inside...

Into the bowl we go...

And viola!

And...

I'll just cut to the chase and say that this was the biggest disappointment of a cup noodle I've ever had. It's not spicy at all! You'd think that if the label includes both the words "HOT" and "SPICY," there should be at least something, right? Well, whatever spice there was just mildly brushed the tongue, and that was it. (Not even the nose felt it.) The taste of shrimp was so mild I'm also struggling to look for it. The strongest-tasting thing in the soup is ironically the freaking cilantro (and I don't like the taste of cilantro and parsley)!

Before you say that I may have put too much water into the bowl that it diluted the taste, know that I have done this method of preparing cup noodles many times before with other cup noodles (local Maggi and Nissin ones) and the taste did not suffer much, if at all.

I don't know why Nissin Foods (USA) is so afraid of adding some heat to their cup noodles. Is their tolerance to spicy foods (and taste) really that low? I just don't know... At this point I've tried all the "Spicy" cup noodles from the US Nissin brand and they've all been meh. I've been kinder to the previous two, but this one was the last straw.

Anyway, unless you really can't stand spicy stuff, just don't bother with this one. If you're looking for something similar that's spicy, go with the Malaysian/Singaporean Tom Yam Seafood flavour.

It doesn't even need the labels "Hot" and "Spicy."
